Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

I became a pharmacy technician for a multitude of reasons. The primary reason resulted from my desire to enter the healthcare field. I had a passion for helping others and through research, I found that pursuing a career as a pharmacy technician can be very rewarding. The best part is that you are not restricted to the traditional pharmacy dynamic. Career advancement opportunities and varied work settings are prevalent.

How long have you been practicing?

I have been in practice for about 8 years, but I have been using my knowledge and skills in other pharmacy roles for nearly 20 years.

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

I am proud of all my accomplishments, but I am most proud of how my experience as a pharmacy technician coupled with my education which helped place me where I am today.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

My most memorable experience has to be the friendships I built with fellow technicians. This role creates a community of like-minded individuals and relationships that last.

Why did you become certified?

I became certified because it was part of my education program, but more importantly because I was dedicated to the profession. I knew that in order to advance, I needed the credentials to do so.

What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?

The advice I would give to others is to know that you are not limited to traditional technician duties. Your knowledge and skills translate far beyond that. I recommend doing research externally and internally with your current employer. You would be surprised at how your knowledge alone can get your foot in the door. Change is difficult, but the reward is worth it.
