Continuing Education Requirements for Renewal

Pharmacy technicians certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) are required to renew their certification every 2 years to maintain their credentials. Each recertification period requires completion of at least 20 hours of CE, with 1 hour each required in pharmacy law and patient safety. 

PTCB-certified pharmacy technicians who hold the advanced certified pharmacy technician credential (CPhT-Adv™) or the certified compounded sterile preparation technician credential (CSPT^®) are required to complete additional renewal requirements to maintain these credentials.

Individual states often have their own requirements for continuing education. Please reference your state board of pharmacy for additional information on state-specific requirements. 

Processing Continuing Education Credit

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) requires that all pharmacy CE credits be processed and claimed no later than 60 days from the date of the live activity or completion of an on-demand activity.

This includes all TPTS or ASHP activities participated in to-date, such as CE obtained via meetings, workshops, live webinars, recorded webinars, home study, print, etc.

• NABP-CPE Monitor will NOT accept CE credits earned from TPTS/ASHP activities beyond 60 days from the date of the live or on-demand activity.
• If you are unsure if you have processed CE, visit NABP-CPE Monitor to check your profile and view their transcript.
• This deadline is established in accordance with ACPE/CPE Monitor directed requirements.
