Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification - Renewal Requirements

Recertification through CE ensures pharmacy technicians remain knowledgeable in current pharmacy practice. PTCB-certified pharmacy technicians are required to renew their certification every 2 years to maintain their credentials.

Each recertification period requires completion of a minimum of 20 hours of CE, with 1 hour each required to be in pharmacy law and patient safety. For additional details, visit PTCB Requirements

TPTS is pleased to offer PharmacyTechCE, a subscription continuing education (CE) service designed specifically to meet the educational needs of pharmacy technicians.

Processing CE Credit

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) requires that all pharmacy CE credits be processed and claimed no later than 60 days from the date of the live activity or completion of an on-demand activity.

This includes all TPTS/ASHP activities participated in to-date, such as CE obtained via meetings, workshops, live webinars, recorded webinars, home study, print, etc.

  • NABP-CPE Monitor will NOT accept CE credits earned from TPTS/ASHP activities beyond 60 days from the date of the live or on-demand activity.
  • If you are unsure if you have processed CE, visit NABP-CPE Monitor to check your profile and view their transcript.
  • This deadline is established in accordance with ACPE/CPE Monitor directed requirements.

NABP e-Profile Requirement

PTCB mandates that all Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) possess an NABP e-Profile for recording continuing education (CE) credits required for recertification.

To ensure your CE hours are recorded in your CPE Monitor Account/e-Profile, you need to provide your e-Profile ID and birthdate to your CE provider before participating in the CE activity.

The National Associations of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) offers a convenient service for monitoring continuing pharmacy education. This service serves as a centralized hub for tracking your CE credits. When you successfully complete an ACPE-approved TPTS activity, the earned credits are automatically recorded and stored in the CPE Monitor section of your NABP e-Profile.
