Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

I entered the pharmacy field in 2006 through a mail order facility where a friend worked. What began as a job turned into a career after I earned my technician license and discovered opportunities beyond community and mail order. This led me to hospital and healthcare settings, where I found deeper purpose and growth.

How long have you been practicing?

20 Years

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

What I’m most proud of in my professional career is choosing to pursue growth after spending 10 years in the same role. That shift in mindset led me to discover my passion for technician education, mentorship, and professional advancement. It also inspired me to become more active in the pharmacy community and contribute to the development of others in the field.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

One of the most memorable moments in my professional career was preparing a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) that ultimately helped save the life of a family member, someone who had also been my Sunday school teacher growing up. It was a powerful reminder of the real impact our work can have on the lives of others.

Why did you become certified?

I became certified after leaving a healthcare facility where I had worked for 10 years, due to limited growth opportunities. I knew certification would be essential to advance my career. Connecting with a technician supervisor at another facility inspired me to pursue not only certification but also advanced credentials. She helped me see that if I had the skills, I should validate them and open more doors by putting them on paper.

What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?

My advice for those interested in becoming a pharmacy technician is to stay open-minded and considerate of others’ perspectives. Embrace a growth mindset and be willing to learn from every experience. Most importantly, remember that being a pharmacy technician can evolve into a fulfilling career, not just a job, if you’re committed to growth and excellence.
