Why did you become a pharmacy technician?
I was in between jobs and had been working as a pharmacy clerk. My pharmacist nudged me gently into taking on the position of pharmacy technician because he appreciated my attention to detail and the ease I had with customers.
How long have you been practicing?
19+ Years
What are you most proud of in your professional career?
I am a voice of advocacy for pharmacy technician advancement by being appointed to the ASHP Council of Pharmacy Practice for two years, taking part in work groups for creating Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certificate programs and item writing, and also being president of the North Dakota Association of Pharmacy Technicians. I have taken on many roles through the years, and I am proud to have found a voice to push for the advancement of pharmacy technicians.
What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?
COVID-19 was something that changed many pharmacy situations and brought many struggles to both patients and healthcare personnel. I live in a rural area, and I was able to deliver necessary medications to patients that lived in the country who were quarantined.
Why did you become certified?
It is a requirement in North Dakota for registration, but I would have achieved certification as a personal goal regardless. I am currently working on my seventh PTCB certificate program, Regulatory Compliance.
