Why did you become a pharmacy technician?
I fell into it while managing the front end of a Walgreens. I was a manager and had to get my pharmacy technician license in order to help the pharmacy. When I left Walgreens, I decided to use my license and found I love being a pharmacy technician.
How long have you been practicing?
I have had my license for 15 years.
What are you most proud of in your professional career?
I get to help patients of different sorts in all conditions of sickness working in a research pharmacy. I have also recently become director-at-large of the Technician Committee for the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists (USHP).
What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?
I was able to help a family member who had a severe case of cancer. I felt like we helped them try to defeat the disease. I was also able to go sit with the family in the waiting rooms during visits. It gave me a sense of what my patients and their families go through.
Why did you become certified?
I did fall into the career. I stay certified as a way to have employers, coworkers, and patients feel confident in me as a healthcare professional. It also allows for a move to another state easier if an opportunity comes up.
