Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

I became a "volunteer pool" pharmacy technician in order to fulfill my required high school graduation hours at the hospital my father was employed at.

How long have you been practicing?

I have been a practicing pharmacy technician for 22 years now!

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

What I love most about my career as a pharmacy technician is seeing the fruits of my commitment to develop the future pharmacy workforce. It's rewarding to witness individuals that I have mentored flourish in their niche and develop innovative processes that surpass my own contributions to patient care. It brings me joy to guide adult learners into national pharmacy technician certification.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

My most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician was when a patient asked to meet the individual that was compounding her chemotherapy. She gave me a hug and thanked me for helping to save her life. Nothing will ever top that for me.

Why did you become certified?

I became certified in order to staff across state lines. Kansas City resides in both Missouri and Kansas.

What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?

The advice I would give to potential pharmacy technicians is to enter the field with a learner mentality. Manage your expectations to develop as your tenure increases, because often the opportunities available to technicians reveal themselves over time. To technicians aspiring to advance their careers, I would also recommend continuous learning and taking advantage of every opportunity, inclusive of training, education, and credentialing. Truly strive to become that "go-to" person within your pharmacy technician practice.
