Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

I became a pharmacy technician out of a passion for the healthcare industry and a desire to help people in a hands-on, meaningful way. I started my career in a community pharmacy setting, where I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed working directly with patients, answering their questions, and helping them understand their medications. Community pharmacy gave me a strong foundation in customer service, problem-solving, and multitasking — all essential skills in this field. Over time, I realized how rewarding it is to be part of a patient’s healthcare journey, especially when I can ease their worries and make the process smoother. Being a pharmacy technician allows me to combine my love for healthcare, attention to detail, and dedication to serving others in a career I’m proud of.

How long have you been practicing?

I have been a pharmacy technician for over 20 years.

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with both patients and healthcare providers throughout my career. Being a pharmacy technician for over 20 years has given me the opportunity to truly make a difference—especially when helping patients navigate complicated insurance issues or calming their fears about a new medication. I take pride in being someone patients feel comfortable turning to for support and answers. I’m also proud of the role I’ve played in mentoring new technicians, sharing my experience, and helping them grow in their careers. Knowing that I’ve helped improve people’s health and made their pharmacy experience smoother and more personal is what motivates me every day.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

One of the most memorable experiences in my career was helping a father who was desperately trying to get a life-saving medication for his son. The medication was urgently needed for a procedure scheduled the very next day, but the insurance company was delaying the process. I could hear the fear and frustration in the father’s voice, and I knew I had to do everything in my power to help. I stayed on the phone with the insurance company, escalated the issue, and pushed for approval—refusing to let the urgency be ignored. His desperation became my motivation. That day reminded me exactly why I love what I do: being able to make a real difference in someone’s life when they need it most. His gratitude and relief will stay with me forever.

Why did you become certified?

So I can have the best confirmation of my training and education to do all I can to assist patients and have a career I’m proud of.
