Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

I became a pharmacy technician because I have a strong interest in healthcare and helping others. I wanted to play an important role in ensuring patients receive the right medications safely and efficiently. This career allows me to combine my attention to detail with my passion for supporting the wellbeing of my community.

How long have you been practicing?

Since 2014 (around 11 years)

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

Knowing that my work directly impacts people’s health and safety. I take pride in being a reliable part of the healthcare team, helping patients get the medications they need and providing accurate information. It feels rewarding to contribute to improving lives every day through my attention to detail and dedication.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

It was during my time as a prescription coordinator for the cardiology division. We often saw patients who struggled to afford their medications, but one case stood out. A longtime patient, who had never previously had issues managing her prescriptions, began to decline after her husband passed away and she lost his financial support. She had multiple chronic conditions and simply couldn’t afford her medications anymore. When the provider brought her situation to my attention, I met with her immediately. I was able to secure a grant for immediate relief, worked with patient assistance programs for her five brand-name medications, collaborated with our social worker to help her regain her late husband’s Social Security income, and got her approved for Medicaid. Today, she’s doing well and we still keep in touch. Helping her get back to a stable and healthy state reminded me why I chose this path—it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives.

Why did you become certified?

I wanted to deepen my knowledge and grow professionally in the healthcare field. Becoming certified allowed me to take on more responsibility, improve patient care, and demonstrate my commitment to the role. It gave me the confidence and skills to be a more effective part of the pharmacy team and to better support patients in managing their health.

What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?

My biggest advice is to stay curious and be eager to learn. This field requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and compassion for patients. Get certified—it not only opens up more opportunities but also helps you feel more confident in your role. Be patient and ask questions, especially during your training. Lastly, remember that you play a vital role in the healthcare system, and the work you do truly makes a difference in people’s lives.
