Why did you become a pharmacy technician?
I made the decision to leave the university where I was studying dance. I wanted a career in healthcare so I could help others, while also supporting my artistic goals.
How long have you been practicing?
17 years
What are you most proud of in your professional career?
For the last 20 years I've lived a multi-career life. Pharmacy has been the constant, and my passion has grown significantly as the years pass. I currently work as a medication history technician and am able to connect directly with patients. This brings so much meaning and satisfaction to my day, knowing that this work is investigative and patient centered.
What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?
Years ago, on July 4th, a family of four was rushed to our burn center. Our whole department showcased empathy and compassion, and extended our shifts to prioritize compounding and delivering medications to this family. It was a sad day, and I will always remember the united efforts of our department.
Why did you become certified?
It wasn't a decision I had to think about. I was certified before graduating from the technician school I was attending, and certification was simply the next step.
