Why did you become a pharmacy technician?

When I was younger, I got sick often and was afraid of doctors, but our local pharmacist always made the day better with his witty jokes and painless vaccines. I knew since then that pharmacy was where I wanted to be.

How long have you been practicing?

I have been practicing for six years. Five years as a lead technician in community pharmacy and one year in a hospital pharmacy. I have also taken time off work solely to pursue extra education.

What are you most proud of in your professional career?

I am most proud of showing up every day and delivering great, continuous patient care. I loved being able to make a difference.

What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?

When a patient experienced syncope during one of the immunizations I was administering. The whole pharmacy worked together to ensure the best outcome.

Why did you become certified?

To demonstrate my knowledge and to help push into clinical territory for the technician profession.

What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?

Soak in as much as you can from your work, whether it be the drug-drug interactions you see, or how certain medications are reconstituted. My main regret will always be not taking in as much as I could.
