Statement of Philosophy
I view pharmacy technicians as essential healthcare professionals who serve as the frontline for patient safety and clinical excellence. In today’s complex healthcare landscape, we are specialized clinical extenders, moving beyond traditional support roles. Specifically in compounding, technicians are the primary stewards of compliance and safety, possessing the deep technical expertise required to navigate highly regulated environments and ensure the integrity of every preparation. I believe our role is vital to the infrastructure of the pharmacy enterprise, and our contributions should be recognized as a cornerstone of high-quality patient care. TPTS must serve as a leading force for professional advancement, championing higher standards in technician leadership and specialized fields of practice. My vision involves the board establishing national frameworks for advanced career paths, including initiatives like technician-managed compounding compliance programs. This vision necessitates the promotion of regulatory structures that mandate advanced certifications, such as the BCSCPT, for specialized duties. By utilizing our strategic partnership with ASHP, TPTS is uniquely positioned to lead the standardization of training and harmonize policy with practice, ultimately ensuring technicians serve as essential leaders in operational strategy and patient safety. I intend to uphold the TPTS mission through a servant-leadership model centered on empowerment and inclusive governance. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in compounding and technician leadership, I am committed to ensuring that our frontline perspectives actively define national professional standards. My goal is to foster a "just culture" within our leadership that prioritizes systemic progress alongside individual professional development. I am dedicated to preserving TPTS as a vital hub for leadership and networking, while strategically aligning with ASHP to elevate the standing of our profession across the healthcare industry.
