Why did you become a pharmacy technician?
I became a pharmacy technician when I was 16 years old in Pennsylvania. It was a co-op career placement when I was studying to be a nurse in our vocational school in Reading, Pennsylvania.
How long have you been practicing?
Twenty-six years.
What are you most proud of in your professional career?
Serving on the inaugural ASHP Technician Executive Committee and serving on the Certification Council for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as a compounding pharmacy technician.
What is your most memorable experience as a pharmacy technician?
Making memories at ASHP conferences and keeping in touch with the same technicians over many years.
Why did you become certified?
It was required to work in Texas. I became an advanced certified pharmacy technician (CPhT-Adv) to further my career as a pharmacy technician in specialty fields.
What career advice do you have for others interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician?
Continuously learn more about the profession. Learn from pharmacists, fellow technicians, and pharmacy leaders. Ask questions about career advancement from fellow colleagues or mentors and strive towards advancing your career.
