Board Certifications vs Professional Certificates

What’s the Difference?

Board certifications serve as an assessment of an individual's expertise. They necessitate ongoing education, and upon successful completion, they bestow the holder with a professional acronym to add to their name. In contrast, professional certificates gauge the attainment of learning objectives from an educational or training program acknowledged by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Unlike certifications, these certificates do not have an expiration date, do not mandate ongoing maintenance, and do not grant an acronym to append to one's name.

ASHP Professional Certificates

ASHP professional certificates provide high-quality, practical professional development opportunities for pharmacy personnel. Learning modules are presented in manageable segments and are 100% online. Participants claim continuing education as each module is completed and must pass a comprehensive exam to earn an ASHP Professional Certificate. ASHP currently offers professional certificates for pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel. ASHP certificates cover clinical topics, practice and general development topics, and sterile compounding.
